and pesticide management measures.
EVER-BLOOM DEVELOPS PATENT-PENDING
ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY NESTING TRANSPORT BUCKETS
Ever-Bloom has developed new patent-pending nesting transport buckets
for shipping flowers. The new more environmentally friendly buckets are
easier to return and re-use, and they allow 480-buckets, rather than the
previous 200-buckets, to be stacked per pallet.
EVER-BLOOM'S NEW SMART COOLER
A new 2,800 square foot cooler has been installed to ensure that the Gerberas
are pre-cooled to the proper temperature. The new cooler is equipped with
the latest Smart technology features. which senses the amount of flowers
stored inside and adjusts energy usage accordingly. The cooler is split
to enable just half of the space to be used, or to create two coolers with
different temperature settings.
EVER-BLOOM RECEIVED AN ISO 14001 REGISTRATION
IN 1996: FOR ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT SYSTEMS

A leader in environmentally sound agriculture business practices,
Ever-Bloom
was the first nursery in the state of California to implement ISO 14001
standards for superior environmental policies into their daily practices.
Every aspect of
Ever-Bloom’s operations were carefully documented and made available
for
review to a global leading third party standardization certifier. While
Ever-Bloom has opted not to continue to invest in maintaining the ISO
certification, they uphold the environmental standards every day.
ISO – International Organization for Standardization – developed
more than 350 International Standards for the monitoring the quality of
air, water, and soil, as well as noise and radiation. They also serve
in a number of countries as the technical basis for environmental regulations.
Ever-Bloom recycles all their cardboard, greenwaste, and scrap metal.
Also one of the first nurseries to use a closed circuit hydroponics watering
system, Ever-Bloom conserves an incredible 50,000 gallons of water per
day. Rain run-off is caught in a specially designed bio-filter pond.
Ever-Bloom utilizes IPM or the Integrated Pest Management Policy to avoid
using environmentally harmful chemicals. Instead of spraying hazardous
pesticides, Ever-Bloom workers inspect plants for insects. If necessary,
predacious insects, which will not harm plants but will feed on the problem
insects, are released into the crops to remedy the problem naturally.
Ever-Bloom embraces the old adage - “Think globally. Act locally.”
EVER-BLOOM ADDS NEW 12-FlOWER
GERB-PAC II™ TRANSPORT SYSTEM
Ever-Bloom is pleased to announce the GERB-PAC II™ TO THE GERB-PAC™
patented wet-pack system for transporting Gerberas. The systems protect
each flower and keep it well hydrated with the least possible water to
mitigate handling and weight concerns. When boxes arrive, the easily removed
slip-top quickly reveals the window sleeves on five cards containing 20
Gerberas, 40 Germini flowers or now 12 flowers with the GERB-PAC II™.
Ever-Bloom’s beautiful high-quality flowers arrive ready for retail
use or easy storage.

EVER-BLOOM WON GREEN AWARD
FOR ENVIRONMENTAL EXCELLENCE IN 2001

At the Green Award ceremonies, Ed Van Wingerden, Ever-Bloom's owner and
founder said, "We are entering a new era in which it is possible to
be both environmentally as well as fiscally responsible for your business.
Often people think that environmentally sound projects will be an investment
with a small return, or no return at all, when in fact it often yields substantial
dividends."
